Cyclone: By Doreen Cronin

Published May 16, 2017

It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt. That line is a line that I think is truly made for this story because it is very similar to the moral. Nora, a 12-year-old girl, and her older cousin Riley are close as can be. Until one day everything changes. Nora blackmails Riley over a boy to go on the scariest ride Nora has ever heard of, The Cyclone. Very shortly after Riley and Nora get off the ride, Riley has a stroke and is hospitalized. She is partially paralyzed and can barely make sounds that sound like words. Nora feels horrible and Riley is furious. What is next for Riley and her quality of life? When I read this book I felt very thankful for my health and that I have not had any big tragedies in my life, it was very humbling. This book is a sad read but opens your eyes to a whole world of realization that is very important to be aware of.
